Our ICU Mobile unit hits the streets four days a week to care for pregnant women in crisis in parts of Atlanta where we would otherwise be unable to reach them. Alicia Davis leads that charge with such compassion and kindness that people can’t help but see God when they’re around her!
Name: Alicia Davis
Title: ICU Mobile Operations Coordinator / Mobile Advocate
When did you start at The HOPE Center? Spring of 2013
How did you initially get connected with The HOPE Center? I saw the job description being advertised at First Baptist Church Woodstock. I had been working there as a security guard while finishing a degree in counseling, and it was just the Lord’s timing!
How have you seen God work through this ministry? There are too many tales to tell of what God has been doing, and I imagine He’s nowhere near finished. I’ve seen Him encourage entire communities in Atlanta through his people simply by being consistently available and “present”. So many times, I’ve smiled with joy as clients exclaim, “Is this for real?? You guys are seriously doing all of this for free?! This is so good! You all are so amazing! I just can’t believe you all would come out here and do this!!”. At which, I then get to say, “Well, this is a picture of how God cares for you. He provides all this through people who give financially so that we can do this at no cost to our clients, and it’s also just a glimpse of the support and resources that are available to moms and dads and families. You’re not alone!” This conversation has happened over and over and over again. I don’t know how many women and babies God has kept from harm during the time I’ve been a part of The HOPE Center’s mobile ministry, only He knows. However, I’m truly honored to be a part of what He’s doing here!
Favorite memory with The HOPE Center? There are so, so many, it’s hard to choose. There have been a few times when clients have come on board and commented about how different the atmosphere is inside the mobile versus what they experience in their normal day. For example, we once had a client come on board and, after a few moments of being inside, she asked if we were Christians. When I smiled and said “Yes!”, she responded with, “because I feel God in here!” Another time, we heard someone honking their horn at us from a nearby red light. When we smiled and waved, she yelled out over the traffic noise, “Hey! Do you guys remember me?? I almost aborted my baby, but I changed my mind! Thank you all so much!” …and with that, the light turned green and she drove away. Those moments are just priceless!
Favorite bible verse? “But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith— that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead.” – Philippians 3:7-11
Fun fact about you? I love animals of all kinds, especially the furry ones. If there’s music with a beat, I just can’t stay still.
Favorite color? Blue
Favorite food? Some good soul food!
You have your own late night talk show, who do you invite as your first guest? I’d invite my Uncle Charlie Trivette, my Mamaw’s brother, who is in his 90’s. He’s my oldest living relative. He’s an excellent storyteller who will have folks listening intently and giggling. He’d tell us about how things were before all the conveniences of modern-day technology, and I think those are important stories to be heard and passed down!
You have to sing karaoke, what song do you pick? “Umbrella” by Rihanna and Jay-Z
If you had to eat one meal every day for the rest of your life what would it be? I’m going to have to be practical here and say…a nice spring mix salad, because I want to stay healthy!
As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up? I wanted to be a missionary!
